Questions people ask before buying
Does the compass need calibrating?
No. It's a magnetic needle compass — hold it flat and level for the most accurate reading, and keep it clear of phones and large metal objects.
Is it waterproof?
It handles rain and splashes without an issue. Don't submerge it — the LED compartment and thermometer aren't sealed for immersion. The internal storage capsule stays dry either way.
How loud is the whistle, really?
Around 100 dB — audible several hundred metres away across open terrain, and far more effective than shouting, which tires you out in minutes.
Can I replace the LED battery?
Yes. It runs on a standard button cell that's included and pre-installed. Swap it at any supermarket or hardware store.
Is it suitable for kids?
It's a popular pick for scout packs, school hiking trips and family camping. Adult supervision is recommended for the magnifier lens, since focused sunlight can ignite material.
How accurate is the thermometer?
It's a field reference for ambient temperature, accurate within a few degrees. Great for spotting a cold front rolling in — not intended as a lab instrument.
